ABOUT AMOSE

AMOSE (Association of Malaysian Owners of Steel Enterprises) comprises members from Malaysian-owned and locally based steel companies operating across various stages of the steel manufacturing value chain.

These activities range from green steel production using electric furnaces to the rolling of billets and slabs to produce steel bars and hot-rolled coils.

In the downstream segment, AMOSE members are involved in the manufacturing of wire mesh as well as cut-and-bend steel products, which are widely used in the construction sector.

Within the engineering and trading sectors, some members provide steel mill–related engineering services and are engaged in the trading of raw materials used in steelmaking.

PURPOSE OF AMOSE

AMOSE was established to advocate for and support Malaysian-owned steel companies, with the objective of ensuring their long-term economic sustainability. In recent years, the market share of Malaysian-owned steel manufacturers supplying steel products to the domestic market has declined to an alarmingly low level.

CHARTER OF AMOSE

☆To ensure the business sustainability of Malaysian owned steel companies

☆To promote the development of Malaysian owned steel companies from the upstream to downstream of the steel supply chain.

☆To ensure Malaysian have a significant stake in steel sector of Malaysia.

☆To advocate for Malaysia to be self sufficient in steel production and not allowed foreign owned steel mills to monopolised the strategic steel sector.

☆To promote the export of steel made by Malaysian to the world.

☆To be aligned with government objectives of ESG best practices and the decarbonization of the steel sector in line with NIMP 2030 & SIR 2035.

AMOSE’S MISSION

AMOSE aims to raise awareness among stakeholders across the steel sector regarding the challenges faced by Malaysian-owned steel mills. It also seeks to highlight the potential concentration risks to national development and to consumers, given that a significant portion of steel produced and sold in Malaysia are not manufactured by Malaysian-owned enterprises.

AMOSE remains committed to ensuring that a substantial portion of steel produced in Malaysia is manufactured by Malaysians, for Malaysians, serving both the domestic market and international markets.
